Irene Tanuwidjaja is an Indonesian composer, sound and multidisciplinary artist based in Cologne, Germany. She graduated from masters of music degree in Electronic Composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Michael Beil and was awarded DAAD scholarship for her studies. Prior to this, she has completed her bachelor’s degree at UPH Conservatory of Music, Indonesia. Irene's work often begins with small gestural motions, or fleeting visual moments, drawn from subtle details of visuals or sound found in everyday life or from the cultural environments that have shaped her experience. These gestures transform into materials through which these sensation unfolds, uncovering the inner textures of sonic and visual materials. 

 

She’s also an artistic director for Radarsuara, an Indonesian composer collective that focuses on sonic experimentation through creative practice and research based/inspired by local Indonesian landscape. 

Her works have been featured at numerious festivals and ensembles most notably at Pekan Young Composers Meeting 2022 performed by orkest de ereprijs, Soundwalk Schokland organized by Museum Schokland and Ensemble Black Pencil, IntAct Festival performed by Tacet(i) Ensemble, Ensemble Mosaik, ZKM, New EAR:: SPATIAL, SIP Fest 2026 organized by Salihara Arts Center and among others.
